What is Murumuru Butter?

Murumuru butter is a luxurious, pale yellow fat pressed from the seeds of the murumuru palm (Astrocaryum murumuru), a spiky Amazonian tree native to Brazil and other parts of the Amazon basin. The seeds fall naturally to the forest floor, where they are harvested and cold-pressed to extract the rich, fatty butter.  Murumuru’s texture is solid and creamy at room temperature but melts quickly on contact with the skin.

Though less known than shea or cocoa butter, murumuru is a standout in the world of natural emollients - prized for its lightness, fast absorption, and protective qualities.  Its high lauric acid content gives it both antimicrobial properties and deep compatibility with human skin and hair.

The Benefits

Breathable Barrier: Murumuru forms a protective layer on the skin and lips that helps prevent moisture loss without clogging pores or feeling greasy.

Silky Texture:  Has a unique dry-glide finish that melts easily and spreads smoothly.

Restorative Fatty Acids: Rich in lauric and myristic acids, Murumuru helps repair damaged skin and soften coarse or brittle hair.

Fast-Absorbing: Unlike heavier butters, murumuru sinks in quickly, making it well-suited for leave-on applications and delicate areas like the eyes and lips.

Hair Tamer: Popular in natural haircare, Murumuru defines curls and reduces frizz without weighing down strands.

Why We Use Murumuru Butter

Murumuru Butter provides structure without stiffness, softness without excess, and moisture without mess - a rare trio. We use it when we want a refined, non-greasy feel in products that still need to protect and condition deeply.

It’s especially compelling in compositions where sensory feel matters: lip butters, brow balms, under-eye care, and leave-in grooming treatments. Murumuru holds space for the oils and actives around it to shine—acting as a silken stage rather than stealing the spotlight.
